Daikin VRV Systems
What is VRF/VRV?
Variable refrigerant flow (VRF) also known as variable refrigerant volume (VRV).
This type of system consists of a number of air handling units connected to a modular external condensing unit.
The refrigerant flow is varied using either an inverter controlled variable speed compressor, or multiple compressors of varying capacity in response to changes in the cooling or heating requirement within the air conditioned space.
- A sophisticated control system enables switching between the heating and cooling modes. In the more sophisticated versions, the indoor units may operate in heating or cooling mode independently of other units on the same system.
- The above arrangement offers potential energy savings when heating and cooling are required simultaneously in different zones of a building or structure.
- This type of system requires no internal plant room space (although those kinds of areas can be used with some of the unique specialist fittings for top vented VRV plant) and offers great flexibility through the many types of air handling units available.
- Applications can vary from office, retail, hotel, luxury apartments, industrial, new and retrofitted buildings.
- A correctly designed system via Global Cooling Ltd. can offer further scope for additional plant on to an existing system paving the way for expansion.
As there are a number of different VRV and VRF systems it would be impossible to list all the various combinations, as the machinery can be used for a vast array of different applications. Some of the different VRF and VRV equipment is detailed below, however Daikin is not the only brand we cater for using this technology, it is the one we actively promote for larger scales air conditioning projects. Also detailed below are details on the Daikin range of heat recovery systems, suitable for many applications. Office Air Conditioning, large Scale Commercial or Industrial Air Conditioning all becomes an easy solution with Daikin’s wide range of applicable products.

Daikin VRVII-S Variable Refrigerant Volume Air Conditioning
The introduction of the VRVIII-S series extends VRV operating scope into the residential, condominium and light commercial sectors. Available in 4, 5 and 6HP capacities, the system is designed for installation in up to 9 rooms.
- Up to 9 Indoor units can be connected to a single 6HP outdoor unit (15kW Cooling Total).
- Up to 8 Indoor units can be connected to a single 5HP outdoor unit (14kW Cooling Total).
- Up to 6 Indoor units can be connected to a single 4HP outdoor unit (11.2kW Cooling Total).
Outdoor unit specifications:
- All three VRVII-S models operate off of a single phase power supply.
- Outdoor Unit Dimensions (mm) (HxWxD): 1345×900x320.
- Outdoor Unit Weight: 127kg.
- Sound Pressure Levels(dB(A)):
- 4HP: 51
- 5HP: 52
- 6HP: 54

The VRVIII-S gives slightly more flexibility
Whatever the air conditioning requirement, a Daikin indoor unit can provide the solution. The VRVIII-S can be combined with 13 different indoor unit models in a total of 73 variations.
Flexible Piping Design
The VRVIII-S provides the long piping length possibility of 150m1 (175m equivalent piping length), with a total piping length of 300m. If the outdoor unit is installed above the indoor units, the height difference can be up to a maximum of 50m2.
These generous allowances facilitate an extensive variety of system designs.
Wide Operation Range
The VRVIII-S system can be installed practically anywhere. The incorporation of a high pressure “dome” type compressor results in a remarkable outdoor operating temperature range from as low as -20°C in heating mode to as high as 46°C in cooling mode.

Daikin VRV Intelligent control solutions

VRV Fresh Air induction, can be used in combination with Heat recovery systems (see below)

VRV Heat Recovery (HRVS) VAM or Daikin Sky Air Conditioning Series
Global Cooling Air Conditioning UK Ltd. supply and install Daikin heat-recovery ventilation systems which are designed to modulate the temperature and humidity of incoming fresh air to match indoor conditions. A balance is thus achieved between indoor and outdoor ambient.
The VAM HRV units provide for cost effective energy efficient fresh air ventilation meeting legal and comfort requirements for offices, public spaces and other commercial applications. HRV units can be controlled individually or integral with the air conditioning system (Daikin VRV or Sky Air series).
When used in conjunction with an air conditioning system the HRV unit enables the cooling or heating load placed on the air conditioning system to be reduced significantly while maintaining the required fresh air ventilation rates.
Essentially, the Daikin VAM HRV system takes out dirty indoor air and pushes in fresh outdoor air to the rooms of your building exchanging heat and humidity between supply and exhaust air, which brings outdoor air close to indoor conditions and thus recovers energy loss.
VAM Systems (HRS)
